Some losses are a tough pill to swallow, and the field hockey team experienced this against the top ranked team in the state, Villa Duchesne. The team went down on the scoreboard five minutes into the game when Villa scored on a corner shot. The Lady Lancers tied the game up in the second half on a goal from Paige Miller and the assist from the state leader in assists (17) Megan Conroy.
The game ended up going into overtime where the drama did not stop. Villa had a controversial call go their way and they got a stroke. They took this to their advantage and scored the game winning goal beating the Lady Lancers 2-1.
When asked her feelings on the game, senior Anna Strode said,”It was a tough loss and we hope to see them again in the postseason and get our redemption.”
Seems like the Lady Lancers are chomping at the bit for another shot at Villa.
You can see the field hockey team in action next on Sept. 21, at St. Joseph’s Academy.
