The varsity girls’ basketball team squared up January 16th against the Marquette Mustangs. After a slow start, the team couldn’t catch up and ended up losing by a final score of 57-43.

On the Jan. 20th, before their game against Seckman, the team stood solid with a record at 7-7.

In the first quarter, Lafayette flew out of the gate quick. They collected 12 points in the quarter and their defense was rock solid, only allowing 2 points.

In the next 2 quarters, they outscored their opponents by 7.  Unfortunately during the final quarter, they were outscored by a basket but their early lead was long enough so that they could hold onto the win.

Maria Johnson was the leading scorer, as she dropped a total of 18 points. Johnson said, “We controlled every possession and rebounded very well. We forced a lot of turnovers and played a really good game overall.”

Tonight the Lady Lancers will play against the Eureka Wildcats. The Wildcats have compiled a 5-10 record so far this season.
