Varsity girls basketball faced off against the Parkway North Vikings on January 6th. The squad got off to a slow start, falling behind early in the first quarter, 23-6. However, in the next two quarters, they matched their opponents score with a slight edge, outscoring them 22-21.

During those quarters, junior Maria Johnson filled up the paint through collecting boards and scoring. Freshman Maddie Devereux also filled the stat sheet, knocking down a handful of shots. Both of them dropped 10 points a piece.

After the 4th quarter wrapped up, the final score sat at 56-37. The early deficit proved too much to overcome in the end, but that didn’t stop them from playing strong, fundamental basketball.

Junior Tayler Dent sasid, “Every loss is difficult, but we played so good last night so it makes it tougher.”

That now puts the Lancers overall record at 5-5, and Parkway North at 7-2. Their next game will occur against Pattonville on January 8th.
