The girl’s tennis team improved their record to 7-2 with a 8-1 victory over Eureka on Sept. 15.

The Lady Lancers have a winning streak of three matches after the win against the Wildcats.

Senior Allison Hallums and Juniors Kendall Goedeke, Marlo McElroy and Caroline Pozo all won their doubles matches and improved their doubles records to 8-0. These wins were enough to give Lafayette a solid lead which eventually was enough to win the match.

“It was great to beat Eureka,” Pozo said. “It was a good match”

With an elite group of players, the team will look to continue their dominance beyond the regular season.

“Our ultimate goal is to win the State Team title,” head coach Donna Stauffer said. “We also want to advance as many players as we can to the Individual State Tournament.”

Last year, Pozo was the Class 2 Singles champion at the Missouri State High School tournament, and her coach is confident in her abilities.

“(Pozo) is playing well enough to repeat,” Stauffer said.

With hopes of making it all the way to State, the Lady Lancers will need to keep up their excellent play to make those goals come true. The team’s next match will take place at Kirkwood against the Pioneers on Sept. 17.
