Lady Lancers dominate Mustangs; will face off against Fox

Despite the struggles and adversity faced by Lafayette’s varsity girls basketball team, they came up with a huge win last Friday night.
Anchored by sophomores Tayler Dent, their leading rebounder, and Maria Johnson, their top scorer, the Lancers knew the magnitude of the game ahead of them.
“We knew what we had to do but we just had to execute the game plan,” Dent said.
Taking on conference rivals, Lafayette played the Marquette Mustangs on their home floor. It was one of the biggest matchups of the year, along with being one of the biggest wins. Marquette is one of the most anticipated games of the year for any sport.
Contributing to the team play, sophomore Jenny Kohl moved the ball well, picking up plenty assists along the way.
The two teams battled up until the buzzer. The score was tied going into the one minute mark, but the Lancers pulled away to top the Mustangs 58-55. After a tough game, the girls were relieved and excited to beat their major rivals.
Unfortunately, after their big win against the Mustangs, when they went up against the Kirkwood Pioneers last Monday and lost 60-43.
Their next game will take place this Friday at Fox, at 5:30 p.m.
