Girls Track takes first in both Varsity and JV at Conference
May 12, 2014
Friday, May 9 was an exciting night for the Lady Lancer Track team. Both varsity and junior varsity took home the first place trophy at Conference. Moving on to Districts will be qualifying Varsity athletes.
This season was hard for track athletes as the weather was always so unpredictable. But toughing up through hard workouts in the cold made the Lady Lancers stronger. Winning first at several meets this season, it put them in a good standings for conference.
Lafayette’s biggest competitor this season has been Eureka in both long and short distance. Senior athletes Kathrine Kelly and Ebony Hopgood show great potential to be in the running for the State meet.
According to St. Louis High School Sports, Kelly is placed in the top 10 for the 800 meter race and top 20 for the 400 meter race. Kelly will be running Track and Field next year at St. Louis University(SLU).
Hopgood is also placed in the top 25 for the 400 meter race, and has broken Lafayette’s school record for it as well.
But for all the junior varsity athletes last Friday’s meet was the last one of the 2014 season.
Districts will be held at this Saturday, May 17 at Marquette.
