The water polo team is looking for a stronger season this year after going 11-16 in the past season while going 3-3 in conference which was good enough for second in the Suburban West.
They open play 0n March 14 against Kirkwood in the Lafayette pool.
This is the beginning of the final season for almost all of the Lafayette team which is rooted with many seniors including the captain trio of seniors Steven Elser, Taylor McKenna and Jake Robinson.
The first game can tell a team a lot about a team, as far as talent and how hard they need to work to play well the rest of the year.
“You never really know how good you really are until the first game. After this game we can know what we need to work on and how much harder we need to work throughout the season,” McKenna said.
As for the game against the Pioneers, there is really only one goal in mind for captain Jake Robinson, “Beat Kirkwood.”
The game didn’t go exactly as planned for the Lancers. They fell short by just one goal to Kirkwood with a final of 14-15.
“We had a chance to tie it up with a few seconds left, but missed a huge opportunity,” junior Connor McAndrew said.
The Lancers look to step their game up in tournament play next, at the Midwest Classic in Chicago on March 25.

[Families] actually having the opportunity to have their kids on the field with us is the most important aspect,” Ben Lundt said.](https://lancerfeed.press/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_6823-1200x800.jpg)
