Social Studies teacher Steve Klawiter will have his AP World History class take the digital exam this May. He said he looks forward to seeing how his students will perform on the exam. “Its been very clear theyre moving towards digital. Since the pandemic started, theyve been putting the pieces in place to go digital, Klawiter said. “I think that ultimately it’s going to be more beneficial because with systems like Canvas and Google Classroom, students are used to more digital activities and less handwriting activities.”

Nov. 5 was a huge day for Lancer nation. Not only did the Lafayette field hockey team win its first State title, but volleyball took home a championship as well.

The squad took down Lee’s Summit West in three games, 25-23, 24-26 and 25-16, at the Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau.

Senior captain Marilyn Dick knew from the start of the season that the team had what it took to get the championship stage.

“Our team just has fun and plays in the moment.  We were definitely focused and playing intense but at the same time knew we all had each others’ back if we made a mistake” Dick said.

Being a senior gave her the motivation to work even harder.

“It was awesome as a senior to win State.  It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity.  Half of us cried we were so happy for winning.  My happy tears were mixed with sad tears because I realized it was over” Dick said.

Dick made the final kill, which led to a dog-pile on the court and lots of celebration.

Dick added, “It was an awesome day we can never forget.  I believe Lafayette has the capability to make it to State next year for sure.”

Junior Lindsey Pecoraro also made a huge contribution to the team, especially on the defensive end.

“It wasn’t enough to just get to State or be in the finals, we had to win” Pecoraro said.

Being a junior, Pecoraro will be returning next year with the same goal of not only making it to State, but claiming the title once again.

Pecoraro added, “My heart literally dropped, I couldn’t believe we actually won.  It’s a moment I’ll never forget.”

The Lady Lancers finished the season 33-5-1 and ranked third in St. Louis by the stlhighschoolsports.com.
