Finishing the regular season 4-0 in Conference play and 7-5 overall, the varsity girls lacrosse team is now preparing for the Missouri Scholastic Lacrosse Association (MSLA) State tournament which will run from May 12-21.
Though the tournament is stacked with some of the area’s top competition from both the public and private school programs, the team believes they have an even shot at the MSLA championship.
“I think we’ll do well. Everyone’s pretty even. I think we have an equal opportunity,” junior Ashley Hipp said.
However, the team had been victimized by inclement weather early this year which may prove to be a weakness in the post season.
“Its’ gonna hurt us more because we didn’t have a game and we didn’t practice, and private schools have turf,” senior Shannon Knobloch said.
The squad will be led by sophomore Mara Worley who is currently leading the team in goals (19), assists (14), and total points (33). They also have four others in double-digit scoring.
The Lady Lancers are seeded seventh among the field of 28 teams, and therefore have a first round by.
They are first scheduled to play in the second round of the tournament at Nerinx Hall on May 14 against Cor Jesu at 3 p.m.
