After their first two regular season games had been cancelled due to inclement weather, the varsity girls lacrosse team was finally able to compete in their “season opener” where they played host to Eureka.
Entering the contest the Lady Lancers were yet to play their first game, while on the other hand, rival Eureka had been 3-0 and was averaging 15 goals per game.
However, junior co-captain Emily Desloge believes its delay served as a source of motivation for the squad.
“Everybody was anxious to get our first game in and see how our team looked this year and where our strengths and weaknesses were,” she said.
At end of the first half, Eureka had established a 5-4 lead. However during the second half of play the Lady Lancers had begun to retaliate, outscoring their opponent 6-3 to defeat the Wildcats 10-8.
Junior Sarah Perry led the way for the Lady Lancers with a team-high three goals, and junior Claire Norfleet and sophomore Hannah Schneider added two goals a piece.
The team is next schedule to play on Friday, April 8 against Marquette at home at 4:15 p.m. as they look to develop based on weaknesses that were made evident against Eureka.
“It showed that we have a lot to improve on and we’re just going to keep practicing as usual and not take any teams lightly. We have a lot of potential to make it all the way,” senior Shannon Knobloch said.

[Families] actually having the opportunity to have their kids on the field with us is the most important aspect,” Ben Lundt said.](https://lancerfeed.press/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_6823-1200x800.jpg)
