The varsity girls tennis team is preparing for Sectionals after defeating both Parkway West in the semifinal match and Parkway South in the finals 5-0 last week to become the District 4 champions.
During the tournament, the team did not lose a single court as each of the top six single seeds won their matches. Therefore, they did not have to play their three doubles courts because the first team to win five matches takes home the District title.
With this, the squad has qualified for team Sectionals with their first round to be played on Oct. 14 at Parkway West against defending State Champions Ladue.
“We have a strong young team and we have accomplished more this season than ever before with a perfect season and strong tournament showings. It should be a close match,” Head Coach Donna Stauffer said.
The addition of the District Championship also gives the team its third tournament title this year.
Individual Sectionals take place on Oct. 12 with District 4 singles champion, freshman Haleigh Chobanian, to play the second seed. A win for Chobanian would make her one of 16 players Missouri qualifying for the individual State championship.
The doubles pair of juniors Chelsea Weise and Julia Vranas will also play the District 4 two seed as a result of their first place finish in the District tournament. A win will qualify them for State, as well.
