Entering the Midwest Field Hockey Tournament as the third seed among 32 teams, the varsity field hockey team is now preparing for their quarterfinal match up against Ladue after defeating Barat Academy 6-0 in the tournament’s second round on Saturday.
Along with five other squads, the team’s high seeding gave them a bye through the opening round, thus putting them one round ahead without actually competing. Though the Lady Lancer’s beat Ladue during the regular season and again to help clinch the Public School tournament championship, the team still finds difficulty in defeating the Rams for a third time.
“We’re going [to] have to move the ball well, pass the ball well, and finish. We have to take care of business,” Coach Kate O’Connell said.
The team has also found strength in freshman Kate Barber so far this postseason, as she scored five goals in the team’s last four games and also leads the Suburban Conference in points with 75. She is followed by senior Shannon Knobloch, whose 58 are good for third in Conference.
Including this postseason, the squad is now 10-0 in Conference play with a 20-2 record overall going into the State quarterfinals. They are scheduled to play at 3:30 p.m. against Ladue at A-B Soccer Park on Nov. 2.

[Families] actually having the opportunity to have their kids on the field with us is the most important aspect,” Ben Lundt said.](https://lancerfeed.press/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_6823-1200x800.jpg)
