Cross Country continues success with personal best times

Though the cross country season is slowly but surely nearing an end, the boys and girls varsity teams are not letting up.

Both teams participated in the Parkway West Invitational on Oct. 2, and multiple members broke their personal records (PR) or had a season best (SB).

The girls finished in fifth place, with four runners breaking the 21  minute mark.

Freshman Mary Augustin led the Lancers in 15th place with a PR time of 20:33.10, followed closely by junior Jennifer Biondo in 16th at a PR of 20:36.71 and junior Maddie Henning in 17th in a SB time of 20:37:10.

Not far behind was sophomore Grace Bueckendorf, setting a PR at a time of 20:56.20 in 27th place.

These outstanding performances held true for the boys varsity team, as well, as they finished 12th in the meet.

Both senior Kurtis Harshman and sophomore Derek Legenzoff broke the 17 minute mark, as Harshmann place ninth with an outstanding time of 16:36.80, followed closely by Legenzoff in 17th in a time of 16:47.90.

The time of 16:36.80 was a SB for Harshman, while Legenzoff’s time was a PR.

Such impressive performances from both teams were accomplished on a very hilly course, which was one of the more challenging runs of the season.

The Lancers are scheduled to compete in the Conference Meet in Arnold Park on Oct. 9.
