Baseball
The Lancers went 3-1 this week. First, they lost to Francis Howell Central 6-5, May 6. Then, the team won against Rockwood Summit twice. They first won 4-1 May 7 with Senior Tyson Oswald pitching a complete game on the mound, they then won again 8-0 May 9. Lastly, Lafayette beat Timberland 10-5 May 10. The team will play Waynesville May 15 to conclude the 2023-2024 season.
Boys Golf
Lafayette finished in 2nd place at the MSHSAA District Tournament May 6. Therefore, the Lancers have qualified to compete at State. Notable players during the tournament include Connor McCown, Mack Freeman and Austin Rinkenberger who all shot a 77, tiedfor 8th place, Anders Thomas who finished 17th and Jake Montgomery who finished 32nd.
Boys Lacrosse
To conclude the season, the Lancers played Lindbergh May 8. Although it was a close game, Lafayette won 7-6. The team finished the regular season with a record of 12-4 and are the Conference Champions. The Lancers will play Eureka for the first round of the Class 2 MSLA playoffs.
Girls Lacrosse
Last week, the Lady Lancers played Marquette and Kirkwood. They lost to Marquette 22-8 May 9, concluding their season.
Girls Soccer
Districts take place May 13 at 6 p.m. against Springfield Central. Sophomore goalie Gen Newell has a total of 94 saves and senior Emily Derucki leads the team with the most points scored, 27. Freshman Kennedy Howard is close behind Derucki with a total of 26 points scored. Districts will take place at Lebanon High School.
Boys Tennis
This week, senior Hudson Kohler is expected to play in the individual State tennis tournament. State begins May 16 and will take place at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield.
Boys Track and Field
On May 11, the Lancers won the District Class 5 meet, scoring 137 points. In the 4×800-meter relay, Seniors Sagan Alsop, Dillion Cronin, Jack Robeson, and Luke Snyder came 1st with a time of 8:08.89. Seniors Matt Hoeft, Isaac Jovcevski, David Marshall and junior Santino Stith came first in the 4×200-meter relay. The 4×100-meter relay team also came 1st, with Hoeft, Marshall, senior Tarbi Tinsley and junior Carl King, running a time of 43 seconds. King also came first in the 300-meter hurdles. Junior Robby Preckel won javelin after throwing for 54.24 meters, breaking the school record he had previously set. Lafayette’s next meet is Sectionals at Waynesville, May 18.
Girls Track and Field
The Lady Lancers won the Class 5 District Meet, May 11, after scoring 134 points. Senior Natalie Barnard won both the 3200-meter and the 1600-meter races. In the 4×800-meter relay, Barnard, junior Avery Brown and freshmen Kelly Archambeault and Alexis Sandberg ran a time of 9:32.54 to win the race. Sophomore Riley Mulligan came 1st in javelin. Lafayette’s next meet is Sectionals at Waynesville, May 18.
Boys Volleyball
The Lancers finished the Class 1 District Tournament 3-0. They played their last two games against Parkway West and Parkway South. They won against both West and South 3-0 on May 9 and 10 respectively. The boys volleyball team will be playing in the State quarterfinal game May 15 against De Smet. Senior Lucas Tran leads the team in attacks, with 726. Junior Alex Griffon has 94 blocks, the highest amount for the team. For assists, senior Kyle Kubasta leads the team with 472, and junior Ethan Tran is behind him with a total of 397. State quarterfinals will take place at 5:30 p.m. at Lafayette.
Boys Water Polo
In the 2nd round of the State tournament, the Lancers faced Oakville/Mehlville May 7. The game was played at John Burroughs, where Lafayette lost 16-12, ending their season. The team finished with a 19-9-1 record, an improvement from their 13-12-1 record last season. Senior Noah Schott was the team’s top-goal scorer with 152 goals, the second-highest scorer was sophomore Owen Waeckerle who had 69 goals. Waeckerle also had the most assists on the team, with 85.
