Track and field teams win Invitational, girls soccer bounces back from loss

With a new school record in javelin, sophomore Robby Preckel thinks he can break his own record. “I can definitely beat that record again,” Preckel said.

Baseball

The Lancers lost 11-3 against the Parkway South Patriots, April 3. However, they bounced back with two wins later in the week. They beat Kirkwood 11-3, April 4. Kirkwood led 3-2 after the first inning, but the Lancers shut them out for the rest of the game and scored 9 more runs. The Lancers beat Kirkwood again 13-4, April 6. Their record is 6-4-1 after their two wins over Kirkwood. The Lancers will face Marquette twice this week on April 11 and 12. Their game April 11 will be at home at 4:30 p.m.  and then they will go to the Ballwin Athletic Association for a 6:30 p.m. game April 12. On April 14, the Lancers have a double-header at Sheridan Stadium where they will play St. Dominic at 4:30 p.m. and SLUH at 7 p.m.  

Boys Golf

The Lancers placed 6th in the Farmington Invitational. Sophomore Anders Thomas had the third-lowest 18-hole score in the Invitational. The Lancers competed in the Bulldog Battle in O’Fallon on April 10 where they tied for 4th out of 20 schools. Thomas shot a one over par to take 3rd overall.

Boys Lacrosse

In the Battle of 109, the Lancers came out victorious with a 9-6 win over Eureka, April 4. Later in the week, they recorded a 14-0 shutout against Webster Groves. Senior Baylor Adamovsky and sophomore Jake Behl both scored five goals in the blowout against Webster Groves. The Lancers will travel to De Smet for a 7 p.m. game on April 11. The Lancers have only beaten De Smet once in their history. The Lancers bring in a 5-1 record with De Smet coming in with a record of 6-3 overall this season. The next home contest for the Lancers is April 14 against Parkway South at 7:30 p.m.

Girls Lacrosse

With a combined 13 goals, seniors Kara Niewoehner and Natalie Tomljenovic led the Lady Lancers to a 17-8 victory over Francis Howell, April 3. However, the Lady Lancers were handed their second loss of the season April 4 when Eureka beat them 20-13. With the loss, their record stands at 4-2. With 26 overall goals, Tomljenovic is second in the St. Louis area in goals. The Lady Lancers will travel to John Burroughs for their next game, April 12. 

Girls Soccer

Breaking their perfect record, Parkway South beat Lafayette 1-0, April 3. After this loss, the Lady Lancers bounced back with two wins and two clean sheets from freshman goalie Gen Newell. Next, the Lady Lancers beat Summit 3-0 thanks to two goals from leading scorer junior Emily Derucki and one from junior Allie Kinner. Later in the week, they beat Lindbergh 2-0 with Kinner getting on the score sheet again and sophomore Aubrey Sinn notching her first goal of the season. 

Boys Tennis

The Lancers got their first win of the season with a 9-0 sweep of Summit on April 4.

Senior and varsity number one singles player Bryce Davis said, “Beating Summit gave us a major boost in morale, which we desperately needed after our pretty bad losses against teams like Eureka and Parkway South. But it’s important not to let it get to our head because underestimating a crafty opponent in tennis can end very badly.” 

However, the next day, they lost against Webster Groves 7-2. They extended their losing streak with a 8-1 loss against Lindbergh, April 6. They will travel to Ladue on April 11 for their next match. 

Boys Track and Field

The Lancers won their second meet in a row, taking 1st place at the Northwest Invitational. Junior Jack Robeson medaled again in the 3200-meter and sophomore Robby Preckel took first in javelin. He also set a new school record with a distance of 48.73 meters. Preckel was shocked he broke the record. “[Breaking the record] felt surprising. The meet before I had thrown nowhere near [my record],” Preckel said.

Girls Track and Field

The Lady Lancers also won their meet at the Northwest Invitational. Seniors Elissa Barnard, Grace Tyson, junior Natalie Barnard and sophomore Avery Brown placed 1st in the 800-meter relay. Freshman Chloe Tabb also won the triple jump. 

Boys Volleyball

Extending their win streak to four, the Lancers swept Kirkwood 3-0, April 4. Junior Lucas Tran led the offense will 11 kills. But the Lancers fell in straight sets 3-0 to De Smet, April 5. The next day, however, the Lancers returned to their winning ways with a 3-0 sweep of Seckman. The Lancers will face Rockwood rivals Marquette and Eureka on April 11 and 13 respectively. Both games are at home at 5:30 p.m.

Boys Water Polo

The Lancers fell to SLUH 23-11, April 4. Junior Noah Schott scored 10 out of the 11 goals. The Lancers take on Chaminade at 5:30 p.m. April 11 at home. They defeated Chaminade earlier in the season 17-6.

Girls Water Polo

With seven shots and seven goals, senior McKenna Budnick led the Lady Lancers to an 18-2 win over Pattonville, April 4. Though they beat Kirkwood earlier in the season, the Lady Lancers dropped a tough one in a 13-12 overtime loss on April 6. Their record now stands at 4-6.  The Lady Lancers wills face Marquette at home at 6:30 p.m., April 11. Then April 13-15, they will compete in the Founder’s Cup at Marquette where they will take on Lindbergh, Pattonville and Marquette.
