Lancer wrestling teams each earn team titles at State; basketball heads into post-season play

On Feb. 24-25, the varsity boys and girls wrestling teams traveled to Columbia, Missouri to compete in the State Tournament. The boys placed 4th and the girls placed 6th overall.

Boys Basketball

The Lancers finished their regular season Feb. 24 at Francis Howell Central. They won by a wide margin 71 -47, led by senior Matt Haefner who had 23 points. Their regular season ended with a 14-12 record and a five-game winning streak that began Feb. 3 at Ladue. On March 1, they begin Districts against a closely-matched Parkway South (15-11) at Parkway West at 7 p.m.

“We are looking to continue this hot streak going into Districts. We are the #4 seed in Districts this year and we have high aspirations this postseason looking to put yet another banner up,” Assistant Coach Arvie Kilongkilong said.

Girls Basketball
The Lady Lancers lost to Francis Howell Central, 44-27, on Feb. 21 closing out their regular season with a disappointing 4-22 record. They enter Districts March 2 against Lebanon High School on March 3 at Eureka High School. The game will start at 7 p.m. The Lancers have not played Lebanon this season.

Escadrille
Escadrille placed 5th overall at the MDTA State Dance Team Championships in Kansas City over the weekend. They also earned 2nd place in the Pom category and 3rd place in the Jazz category. The Pom finish was the highest placement ever for a Lafayette team. In the solo divisions, juniors Sydni Knox earned 16th place and Katelyn Letourneau earned 10th place. Sophomore Lauren Mitchell earned 10th place in her division.

Hockey
The Lancer Hockey team advanced to the Wickenheiser Championship after defeating Oakville in the semifinals Feb. 24-25.  The Lancers won the first game 5-2 and then lost the second 2-0 forcing a third tie-breaker where junior Kyle Kraft scored the only goal of the game in the second period. Lafayette (5-3-1) will face Ft. Zumwalt West (5-1-1) in the Championship Game Friday, March 3 at 7 p.m. at Centene Center.

Boys Wrestling
The Lancers finished in 4th overall at the MSHSAA Class 4 State Tournament, having improved from last year’s overall sixth place finish. Juniors Dylan Roth and Andrew Weir each placed 2nd in their weight classes earning Individual All-State honors. Sophomore Aiden Schoen placed 3rd and freshman Calum Brown placed 6th.

Girls Wrestling
The Lady Lancers took a record of six competitors to State including seniors Dashiya Houston, Jayla Jones, juniors Toby Goertz, Maddie Johnson, sophomores Aaliyah Grammer and Hannah Henderson. The team placed 6th overall in the MSHSAA Class 2 State Tournament. The Lady Lancers had four members earn Individual All-State honors for placing in their weight classes. Jones placed 3rd,  Houston and Goertz took 4th and Grammer was 5th.
