LHS Craft Corner: Bow Making

Bows are a simple, yet effective way to spice up a dull outfit or act as a quick fix for a new hairstyle. They can be used in many different styles and made out of any fabric available. However, bows online can be very pricey and the patterns are limited. LHS Craft Corners’ Emily Altic and Gabby Breiten show you how to make your own bows quickly for a low cost so you can accentuate any outfit without burning a hole in your wallet.
1. Straighten out the fabric so the dull side is facing upwards
2. Fold the fabric into a triangle
Tip: The size of your triangle will effect the size of the bow so adjust according to preference
3. Cut a straight line about an inch away from the fold and unfold the triangle so it forms a square
4. Fold the fabric vertically, then again horizontally
5. Fold the fabric tightly four times, alternating direction with each fold.
Tip: The tighter the folds, the tighter the bends in the bow will be
6. Pinch the bow evenly in the center and apply hot glue in between each fold
7. Cut a strip of fabric to become the center of your bow, fold it into thirds and apply glue to keep it together
Tip: The bigger the strip, the wider the center will be
8. Place a dot of glue on the back of the bow, attach the strip then wrap it around the center of the bow and glue the edge, cut away any excess fabric.
9. Apply a dot of glue on the back of the bow and attach a clip of choice. Hold it in place until it dries.
10. Cut away any excess strands.
Tip: Be careful to avoid coming in contact with the hot glue, it may burn skin.
