At the 2023 Prom, Class of 2023 graduates Joe Marlo and Will Barry stay at the edge of the main floor to do their dancing. Because the small dance floor was the most crowded area, many students gathered around the edges with friends or in small groups.

Hints to make Pointfest a better experience

Sunday, May 15, marks the 28th semi-annual music festival, “Pointfest,”  hosted by 105.7 the Point.

The festival has multiple stages that showcase all different levels of groups ranging from local bands like Greek Fire, to the the ultra-famous Korn and Papa Roach.

The sets begin at about 9 a.m. and from there the music doesn’t stop till well after 10 p.m. The smallest bands open and play on the smaller stages during the day. The headlining bands start playing on the Verizon Amphitheater stage at about 5 p.m.

The day can be brutal if you’re a first-timer and come unprepared. To help make your day as enjoyable as possible, follow these tips!

  • Bring a blanket or towel to sit on for the headlining bands unless you bought stadium seats. The grass gets itchy and uncomfortable after a few hours.
  • You can only bring one bottled drink, and it has to be sealed when you get there. At the admission gate, they will remove the cap for you and throw it the cap away. If you have any other bottles, they will not let you bring them in and you’ll have to throw them away.
  • Either plan to get there early (about 15 minutes prior to gate opening time) or be prepared to wait in line. Most people show up at about noon, when the bigger bands start playing, and the line gets excessively long.
  • Bring LOTS of sunscreen. Wear it. Reapply it often.
  • Bring enough money to buy plenty of liquids throughout the day. It can be pretty hot, and you’ll want to have access to as much liquids as you’ll need. It will most likely be more than you normally consume.
  • Bring sunglasses. Some of the stages have the sun directly above/behind them, and it can be unpleasant squinting to see your favorite band for an hour.
  • Pay attention to your surroundings. Some concert go-ers forget their music-listening manners, and think it’s a good idea to mosh. If you’re uncomfortable with this, you should move away. If not, prepare to get a few bruises and cuts.
  • Same goes for body-surfing. You will be dropped, so surf at your own risk.

Follow these tips and you’re sure to have an awesome day. And if you haven’t bought your tickets yet, go get them!
