Burton does it again with “Alice in Wonderland”

This well-known child’s tale has been remade into a strange fairytale with the help of Tim Burton. Alice In Wonderland opened in theaters last Friday which eagerly pleased the anxious fans.

I arrived at the Chesterfield AMC and saw my fair share of top hats, bunny tails and girls with the Queen of Hearts playing card stuck to the sides of their heads. It seemed everyone was matching Burton’s odd sense of humor with their own.

The movie itself was quite entertaining as every actor perfectly portrayed their strange character. Burton’s version of Alice in Wonderland is almost a sequel to the original story that we all know and love. Alice returns to Wonderland as a 19 year old to save the land from ultimate decapitation.

Mia Wasikowska makes her acting imprint as she plays the innocent, daring role of Alice Kingsley. Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter plays a more in-depth role as he aids Alice in her journey, and definitely lives up to the “mad” expectations from many.

With Anne Hathaway playing the all-knowing, beautiful White Queen, one cannot feel but drawn to her as, let’s say, the Glinda the Good Witch. Helena Bonham Carter loves to be hated, and did well as the villainous Queen of Hearts.  Not one role was off; every actor had every bit of their character in them. Right down to Tweedledee and Tweedledum, the twin boys added the perfect element of comedy and naiveness to the movie.

Personally, I enjoyed the film. It wasn’t unpredictable by any means, but a new, twisted storyline did add more excitement. Understanding the strange humor can be difficult, but c’mon. It’s Tim Burton we are talking about here. Should we expect anything less?
