Renaissance Chick-fil-a fundraiser set for Sept. 9
September 8, 2015
The sixth edition of the Lafayette vs. Marquette Rivalry Fundraiser will be held at Chick-Fil-A Wednesday, September 9. It will be held from 5 p.m. till 9 p.m. at the Chesterfield Valley Chick-Fil-A. This fundraiser helps benefit the Renaissance program at Lafayette, as 15 percent of each purchase goes to whichever school the customer chooses.
“This fundraiser helps raise money for the program and support its mission to promote and reward academic excellence,” Matt Landwehr, Renaissance Business Coordinator, said.
This fundraiser comes in anticipation of the Lafayette vs. Marquette football game that happens Friday, Sept. 11, at 7 p.m.
On Wednesday, customers can purchase food at Chick-Fil-A and designate which school they want their funds to go to by placing their receipts in the bins inside the restaurant or, if in the drive through, telling the server at the window which school they would like to. The amount of receipts will be counted, and whichever school has the most receipts will be awarded a $500 check from Chick-Fil-A at the game on Friday.
“Chick-Fil-A is a great supporter of both Marquette and Lafayette Renaissance,” Landwehr said. “This [fundraiser] is a great way to further our partnership together.”
These fundraisers always occur before the game between the schools for football and basketball. However, there is a difference in percentages and check amounts between the two sports.
Before the football games, 15 percent of the proceeds go to the programs, and there is a $500 check. On the other hand, the fundraiser before the basketball games has 20 percent of proceeds going to the programs and a $100 check for the winner.
Historically, Lafayette has the winning record for the fundraiser, with four wins out of the five times the fundraiser has been held. But, last winter when the fundraiser was held for basketball, Lafayette ended up losing.
“We need everyone to come out Wednesday September 9 from 5 to 9 to help us get back on our winning track to beat the Mustang,” Landwehr said.
