Last year, Lafayette was the winner of the Commissioner’s Cup award. This trophy is awarded to the school that shows improvement and excellence in Suburban and Missouri State High School sponsored championships.

In 2014-2015 Lafayette won 13 conference championships, 9 district championships, seven final four appearances and two state championships.

The girl’s varsity volleyball team is responsible for a great deal of these victories. In 2011-2012 the Lady Lancers varsity volleyball team started their streak of winning four straight conference and state championships.

The team went 33-5-1 in their first year and then posted records of 36-0, 38-1-2 and 27-7-2 in the following years.

“The team wouldn’t be as successful if it wasn’t for the coaches and fans and their support,” Middle Blocker Kathryn Wesolich said.

With over 15 years of coaching experience each, coaches Zach Young and Sue Tillery are always finding ways to teach their players skills that they will use on and off the court.

“Lafayette’s volleyball program is so unique because the coaches focus on team bonding and building character as well as skill,” Wesolich said.

The team’s success lies in the unconditional support of the fans and the hard work and dedication of the coaches. These assets have spurred the team on to continue the legacy.

Lafayette’s collective successful results across all sports contributed to the school winning the award.
