Pasta for Pennies Campaign kicks off at lunch

During lunch last week, members of the Chesterfield Chamber of Commerce Junior Leadership offered to help Junior Reserved Officer Training Corps (JROTC) collect money for the Leukemia Society Pasta for Pennies campaign. Juniors Hannah Boxerman, Allison Gerling and Christine McLaughlin walked around at lunch asking tables to donate any spare change they had.

Colonel Mike Berenc said, “The Chesterfield group will certainly help us to reach and exceed our goal this year.”

JROTC has been involved in helping this campaign since 1996. Berenc said, “Our goal each year is based on the prior year tally which was $1,030 for school year 2009-2010. Since the inception of the fundraiser, we have raised over $20,634.17.”

The Welcome Center and the Math Department have also teamed with JROTC to help raise money.

The fundraiser officially kicks off on Monday, Feb. 14 and concludes on March 4.

“It is a good cause as are all the service projects and organizations supported by the Lafayette students and staff,” Berenc said .
