Sophomore Morgan Stoermer stumbled into acting and theater classes by accident. However, since the age of 5, she has not regretted it.

“My mom actually signed me up for a summer camp [at Dayspring School of Arts and Education] when I was five and I haven’t stopped since,” Stoermer said.

So far, Stoermer has participated in over 20 shows which involved her playing various roles. Though having a variety of roles is sometimes difficult for Stoermer, she enjoys the opportunity to put her acting skills to the test. Some of these roles consist of Jasper in 101 Dalmatians, Billy in Honk, Jack’s Mom in Into the Woods and Gad in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

Although Stoermer has been in two shows since the start of COVID-19, this will be one of her first shows with fewer limitations to the number of audience members allowed to attend, which Stoermer said might make it even more nerve-wracking.

“I think I’m always somewhat nervous and my excitement always makes me shaky, but I love performing. I guess you could say the nerves are part of the fun,” Stoermer said.

When Dayspring School of the Arts and Education announced upcoming auditions for Urinetown the Musical, a musical concerning the idea of human rights and corrupt governments, Stoermer knew she had to jump on the opportunity.

Stoermer went into the audition trying out for the role of Little Sally, but ended up getting the role of Officer Barrel. Although Stoermer did not get her first choice, she cannot wait to challenge herself with the role of Officer Barrel and is more than excited to work closely with such a friendly group of people. She was working on a lab in Chemistry when she got the surprising email.

“I was really excited. The cast and all the people I get to work with are great and I get to be comedic which is by far my favorite type of role I get to play,” Stoermer said. “Personally, I am also excited because this role, even though it’s fun, it is also challenging and I really love the challenge and being able to grow more.”
