March 24, 2016
As the Spring season is upon Lafayette, looking back 20 years to 1996 brings some shocking trends that are back in style.
The staff reported that the top 10 styles in 1996 were as follows from one to 10: Grunge, Nudity, Pastels, Khaki Shorts, Cutoffs, Birkenstocks, Polos, Cargo Shorts, Hats, Long Hair.
Although pastels seem like a common spring fashion, things like Birkenstocks, cutoffs, grunge and nudity are some fads that are making a strong influence in the style this season.
Stores that were popular for the 90’s according to Lafayette students were most popular in the order that follows: The Gap, American Eagle, Eddie Bauer, Champs as well as Abercrombie and Fitch. Even though some of these may not be the most shopped at in 2016, they are still very alive and popular.
When interviewing students in 1996 asking what they thought the hot trends would be that season, the Image staff got responses like chunky sandals, strappy shoes, khaki shorts and simple dresses. These styles are also in right now walking around the halls of LHS in the 2015-16 year. What a comeback, right?
