IMG_8950Thursdays after school it’s game on in language arts teacher and club sponsor, Nathan Willard’s,  kingdom. These after school club meetings consist of various board games along with card games of all sorts.

Junior Noah Mickel is one member of the club who is passionate about his immense collection of cards. Mickel uses his box of cards as “weapons” against other players. His card collection consists of everything from Pokemon cards to Magic cards. However, Player’s Guild is more than just an afternoon spent in a classroom.

“We basically play a bunch of different card games and dorky activities; it’s kind of a place we use just to hang out,” Mickel said. “It is cool place for nerdy people to come together.”

Out of the many games these players are involved in, Magic: The Gathering is the most popular among club members.

“It combines the game war and football card collecting. Different cards do different things and you put together your own deck to take on other players’ cards,” Willard said.

Players Guild provides a fun environment for kids with similar interests. Anyone can come and compete if they feel their skills are up to par.

“You get a bunch of different kinds of people, that’s what I like about it,” Mickel said. “It’s pretty much magic.”
