Out and About: Lone Elk Park showcases the beauty of nature

Emily Altic, Reporter

After an amazing recommendation that had me more than eager to pay a visit to Lone Elk Park, I had anticipated the best and was far from disappointed. I personally love outdoor activities, and with the sun beginning to peak its rays upon the winter wasteland that has become Missouri, what better way to embrace the change in climate than to get fresh air while basking in magnificent scenery.

Upon entering the park I was immediately taken away by the beauty that had been carefully preserved. Despite the trees being brown from the harsh winter, the park was full of post card worthy views that took my breath away.

The wildlife that call these rolling hills and sparking ponds home was even more awe-inspiring. Large elk lay in the grass, idly chewing and not even minding as people drive by, deer dot the fields and massive, furry bison travel in packs, grazing in the peaceful atmosphere.

It was an amazing experience to be able to witness these creatures coexisting in their natural habitat, as opposed to the cold metal bars of a zoo.

Lone Elk Park is open from 8am – a half hour past official sunset and is located at 1 Lone Elk Park Rd.

I would love to revisit again in the fall when the leaves change colors to see these beautiful animals again and would recommend a visit to Lone Elk Park to all nature-lovers.
