With Prom right around the corner, guys are probably fretting about who they are going with, girls are wondering what dress they’ll have and both are curious as to after party plans.
Then there are the little details, like how to tie a tie, which seem like rocket science. So, guys, to take a small load off your back, here are some tips for how to tie a Half Windsor knot.
1) Pick up the tie you’re planning on using and put it around your neck. Put the side you want to show on top. The thicker side should be on the left and hanging down longer than the right side about 6 inches. Make sure it’s not twisted.
2) Put the left side over top the right like an X. Then curl it back under so you made a full loop over the right side of the tie. Once again, make sure it’s not twisted.
3) Repeat the first part of step two by placing the left side of the tie over top the right side again, but underneath the first loop.
4) Instead of curling the right side (the thicker part) around to make another loop, bring it up by your neck. Put it underneath the space at the very top of the tie where your chin is and then up and through. The thicker part of the tie should now be on top of the smaller piece and facing the correct way.
5) Before you pull it tight, look for a bunny hole in the tie where you made your first loop. Place the thicker side through and pull it down.
6) On the back of the thicker side of the tie there should be a small hole where you can put the smaller side of the tie so it doesn’t fling around while your dancing.
7) Finally, adjust the knot by bringing it up higher. After this, you are finally finished and have completed the Half Windsor knot. That’s one less thing you’ll have to worry about before the big night.
