This week students in Food 1 participated in a Top Chef Cake Contest for their Cake Unit.
“The students bake a cake of their choice with their lab group and decorate it with creativity taking into account presentation, taste and originality,” teacher Becky Lawrence said.
Then five people from outside of the classroom came to judge the cakes based on this criteria.
The judges included math teacher Tom Beckmeyer, hall monitor Joe Belfiore, retired P.E. teacher Paula Grana and three students that have taken Foods 1 in the past.
Sophomore Mackenzie Miller took part in the competition.
“We had devils food and cream cheese icing with Hershey’s bars inside the icing. Then we shredded chocolate in cute little swivels and we put it on the cake, but that didn’t win us anything,” Miller said.
Despite getting last place, Miller enjoyed the contest.
“Everyone did a great job and seemed to enjoy the healthy competition,” Lawrence said.
