Local butterfly house cares for thousands of insects for community recreation

Aidan Kelly and Sam Walowitz

It is common for children living in the area to visit the Sachs Butterfly House in Chesterfield at some point, but not many people know the background of  The Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House. The facility at Faust Park is the first insectarium accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. With many other insects to see, the heart of the house is the 8,000-square-foot conservatory with around 2,000 butterflies in free flight year-round.
