Boys, girls basketball extend win streaks, boys wrestling remains undefeated

Weekly sports update: Dec. 7-13

Junior Tommy Hagan works to get back points by doing a power half on his opponent. Hagan went on to win the Francis Howell North tournament in his weight class. The Lancers also won the whole tournament, beating a few other teams with a total of 210.5 points.

Boys basketball: The Lancers stunned the Rockwood Summit Falcons on Dec. 8 with a big 72-44 win. Senior Drew Byous led the team with 22 points in the game, with eight field goals. Senior Sam Murray followed behind with 12 points by six field goals. On Dec. 11, the Lancers continued their win streak as they beat Francis Howell 64-52. After those games, the Lancer’s current record sits at 3-2, and their next game will be against Oakville on Dec. 15.

Boys wrestling: On Dec. 8, the Lancers had two matches, one against Waynesville and the other against Wentzville Holt. They won both of those matches, beating Waynesville 65-10 and Wentzville Holt 57-19. The following night, they also won against District rival Marquette, with the final score of 48-22.

Girls basketball: After coming off a win against Pattonville on Dec. 4, the Lady Lancers continued their win streak with two victories, bringing their current record to 5-1. Their first game of the week was a dominating 58-27 win against Clayton High School. Senior Brynn Jefferies scored 20 points on the night, and junior Rachel Delaney followed close behind with 12 points. Their next win took place on Dec. 11, where they beat Francis Howell 49-39. The Lady Lancers look to continue their win streak on Dec. 15 at Oakville High School.

Girls swimming and diving: Last week, the Lady Lancers had a dominating 141-42 win over Liberty Wentzville. On Dec. 10, they had another win against Ladue, 129-57.  After that, they competed in the annual Marquette Relays against a couple of other area teams. In the competition, the Lady Lancers placed third as a team in the diving section, and second as a team in the swimming relays.

Girls wrestling: The Lady Lancers had their first two losses of the year on Dec. 8. They lost to Waynesville, 42-27, and then lost to Wentzville Holt, 41-18. However, in the following match on Dec. 9, the Lady Lancers bounced back with a big 48-12 win against Marquette High School. On Dec. 11, the Lady Lancers competed in the Liberty Wentzville tournament and took second place. Senior Josette Partney and juniors Seraphina Blackmon and Faith Cole each won first place in their respective weight classes. Unfortunately, the Lady Lancers struck out at the Wentzville Holt quad and lost against Holt, Lindbergh and Washington.

Hockey: In the first game of the week against Vianney, the Lancers lost in a high scoring 8-5 game. Sophomore Andrew Knapp had two goals, and seniors Samuel Rubenstein, Justin Sprague and freshman Alexander Schmitt each scored one. The Lancers rallied from the difficult loss with a win against Oakville on Dec. 10. In the 4-1 win, juniors Luke Carrico, Shane Robinson, freshmen Drew Robinson and Schmitt each scored a goal. However, on Dec.11 the Lancers tied SLUH in a tough 2-2 match. Then, they played against Chaminade and won in a dominating 9-2 fashion. Their next game will be against CBC on Dec. 14 at the Maryville Hockey Center.
