Weekly sports update: Sept. 23-Sept. 29

All fall sports and activities are on for the upcoming semester. Each sport will follow new guidelines in order to decrease the spread of COVID-19.

Boys Cross Country: The Lancers did not have a meet. They will participate in the Dale Shepherd Invitational on Oct. 5 at Living Word church. 

Boys Soccer: On Sept. 24, the team played Pattonville and won 2-1. The following day, they played at Lindbergh and lost 4-1. Even with the two games during the week, the Lancers participated in the Parkway Tournament of Champions, and placed first in two games, scoring 10 goals, and allowing none. In their first game against Parkway North, on Sept. 28, they played against Parkway North and won 7-0 with senior Matt Kanan scoring three goals for a hat trick. Later, they played Parkway West and won 3-0, placing first in the whole tournament. This week, the team will play against Parkway West on Oct. 1 on the turf at 6 p.m.

Boys Swimming: On Sept. 24, the boys swimming team beat Oakville 101-70, then they lost to SLUH on the same night, 158-101. The team also faced off against Marquette on Sept. 26 and lost 101-85. This week, they will compete at Eureka on Oct. 1 at 4:30 p.m.

Field Hockey: The Lady Lancers played long-time rival St. Joe on Sept. 23 and won 2-1. They also traveled to Kentucky over the weekend to play in the Bluegrass Invitational. In the first game, they beat Mercy Academy, 5-2, and in the second, they beat Louisville Ballard 1-0. During the games, freshman Lene Rossouw scored four of the team’s six goals. This week, the team plays at Oakville on Sept. 30, and then at Summit on Oct. 2. They will also play at home against Edwardsville on Oct. 4.

Football: On Sept. 27, the Lancers played at Northwest Cedar Hill and won 35-7, advancing the team’s record to 4-1. Senior Caden Phipps ran 164 yards, scoring four of the five touchdowns for the Lancers. The other touchdown came from senior Jalin Reese, who ran the ball in after a blocked punt.  This upcoming Friday, they’ll play at Parkway South, with kick-off set for 7 p.m.

Girls Cross Country: The Lady Lancers did not compete in a meet; however, this week, they will run at the Dale Shepherd Invitational on Oct. 5 at 4 p.m.

Girls Golf: On Sept. 23, the Lady Lancers lost to Marquette in a close match, losing by eight points, 153-161. They also played at the Farmington Tournament. Caroline Boyette, Bailey Bridge, Grace Stafford and Kate Worley all won their matches. This week they play at Summit at Crescent Farms at 3:45 p.m, and they will play on Oct.2 at the Suburban Conference Championships at 8 a.m.

Girls Tennis: On Sept. 23, the girls tennis team played Parkway South and won 9-0. The next day, they played Westminster and won 11-0 on Sept. 24. On Sept. 26, they beat Parkway Central 9-0, moving to 10-1 on the year. On Sept. 27, the Lady Lancers lost to St. Joseph 8-1 with three matches losing in a tiebreaker. This week, they will play on Oct. 1 at Incarnate Word at 4:30 p.m. They will also play at home at 4:15 p.m. against Cor Jesu on Oct. 2. 

Girls Volleyball: The Lady Lancers lost to Cor Jesu by three sets in a best of five match, then went on to beat Mehlville in two matches. This week, they will play on Oct. 1 at Marquette at 5:30 p.m. Then they play on Oct. 5 at Nixa at Blue Springs South at 9 a.m.

Softball: The Lady Lancers played Fort Zumwalt South and beat them 5-1. They also beat Lindbergh 12-7, where senior Hannah Long hit a home run. This week they play on Sept. 30 at Oakville at 4:30 p.m. Then on Oct. 1, they play at home against Summit at 4:30 p.m.
