Weekly sports update: Sept. 2-Sept. 9

Prior to the boys soccer team’s first home game of the season on Aug. 24, the team huddles together to hear a speech given by first-year head coach Jason Sellars. In Sellars’ first-year leading the Lancers, he’s already off to a quick start with a 3-2 record.

Boys Cross Country: On Sept. 8, the Lancers competed in wet and muddy conditions and placed 7th overall in the Forest Park Cross Country Festival. Harrison Brown led the team with a 27th place finish. Their next meet is on Sept. 15 at Sioux Passage Park.

Boys Soccer: On Sept. 4, the Lancers fell to the Marquette Mustangs 2-1, and on Sept. 6, the Lancers defeated the Kirkwood Pioneers 1-0. Their current record is 3-2, with upcoming games on Sept. 11 at 6 p.m. at Parkway South. The Lancers will also play at Mehlville on Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. 

Boys Swimming: Boys swimming starts their season this week on Sept. 13 with a meet at Lafayette at 4:30 p.m. against Ladue. 

Field Hockey: The Lady Lancers had a busy week as they competed in five games including the Rockwood Tournament on Sept. 8. The team went 3-2 last week defeating Ladue two times and Marquette once, and they fell just short of both Cor Jesu and Rockwood Summit. Thus far into the season, sophomore Mia Simpson leads the team four goals and nine points. They play next on Sept. 10 at Westminster at 4:30 and Sept. 13 at 4:30 against Visitation at home.

Football: The football team earned their first victory of the season against Ritenour on Sept. 6 improving their record to 1-2. Junior quarterback Joey Moorkamp completed 10 passes and scored two touchdowns in the 28-27 win. The Lancers will take on Eureka at Eureka in the Battle of 109 this Friday at 7 p.m.

Girls Cross Country: On Sept. 8, the Lady Lancers raced in extremely muddy conditions and did not place at the Forest Park Cross Country Festival. However, senior Anna Karner placed 10th individually to lead the team. Their next meet is on Sept. 15 at Sioux Passage Park.

Girls Golf: On Sept. 4, the Lancers had a match against Lindbergh and Rockwood Summit. They got 2nd place with an overall score of 188, and sophomore Brooke Biermann placed first individually finishing with an eagle. On Sept. 5, they competed in the the Lindbergh Invitational tournament where they placed 4th with an overall score of 359. Their current record is 1-2 with their next tournament, the Summit Scramble, on Sept. 10 at 8 a.m. They will also take on Eureka at Ballwin Golf Course on Sept. 13 at 3:45 p.m. and on Sept. 15, they will compete in the Angel Classic tournament at 7 a.m.

Girls Tennis: The Lady Lancers match against Marquette on Sept. 6 was cancelled due to the rain. Their next match is on Sept. 12 at 4 p.m. at Parkway West where the Lancers will face off against the Longhorns.

Girls Volleyball: On Sept. 4, the Lady Lancers defeated Parkway South in two sets, but on Sept. 5, the team lost to Borgia in three tough sets. Their record is now 4-2. They have four games next week including home games in the Main Gym on Sept. 11 at 5:30 and Sept. 13 at 5:45. They are also scheduled to play in a tournament at St. Joseph’s Academy on Sept. 15 with games at 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

Softball: On Sept. 4, the Lancers defeated Kirkwood 3-2 but lost to Francis Howell 7-3 on Sept. 5. They also lost to Seckman 6-3 on Sept. 6, making their current record 4-3. On Sept. 10, the Lancers will play Eureka at 4:15 p.m. and Parkway South at 7:45 p.m. at the Kirkwood Athletic Association. They will also take on Oakville on Sept. 13 at 4:15 p.m. and Parkway North on Sept. 14 at 4:15 p.m.
