St. Louis Community College in Wildwood is bringing new and exciting opportunities for any interested high school students.

The community college is providing high school students the ability to apply and enroll in college classes while still in high school.  The school wants to focus on allowing students to get a jump start on the their future and college career.

Some students have already taken advantage of this and have decided to apply.

Junior Hannah Basom has been enrolled at the college since the beginning of the new school year.  She has been particularly enjoying the whole experience of it.

“I love it so much.  My teachers are super nice and helpful and the benefits are that I’ll have my associates degree by the time I graduate high school,” Basom said.

Basom, who was initially skeptical about the idea quickly found it be a friendly environment and campus.  The whole experience has been a lot less stressful than she anticipated.

According to Basom, the time spent at the college versus the time spent in a high school class is night and day.

“If the teacher has nothing else to say in the class they let you leave which is way more time efficient,” Basom said. “But because of this there’s less free time in the classes as compared to a high school class so I have a lot more homework.”

Besides her time being filled with more homework,  Basom is looking forward to going to class everyday because she knows it will bring her a better future.  Basom claims that her stacked list of classes such as pre-calculus, introduction to American politics, English Composition, accounting, and psychology don’t get in the way of spending time with her friends or getting involved in the high school.

“I’m still involved in sports and activities like cross country and key club.  Also I swing by the high school to have lunch with my friends when I’m off classes.”
