Final exemptions now processed online

To make sorting through final exemptions easier, online exemption forms are being used during the 2018 school year.

Exemption forms will be sent directly to students through their Rockwood email at the start of their submission period. Once the response is sent to this email, it is final.

Once you submit your form, once it’s past the date we don’t allow students to change because we’ve got to have all that information in attendance

The form for seniors will come out on May 3rd and the deadline to submit a response is May 10. The underclassmen form will come out on May 9 and the deadline to submit a response is May 16

Each student will only get one response. If there is an error, students will have to see their grade level office about the issue. If a student changes their mind after submitting or their grade drops and they do not resolve the issue with staff before the deadline day, no changes can be made.

Once you submit your form, once it’s past the date we don’t allow students to change because we’ve got to have all that information in attendance,” Assistant Principal Mandy Lewis said.

When the full exemption list is gathered, it will be sent out to teachers for verification. Teachers will double check students grades and make sure they can exempt.

“We started with an online exemption form in the fall really just to streamline the process and make it easier for students and to make it easier for staff,”

The sorting of exemption forms was much more complex for the school staff prior to online forms. Over a thousand papers had to be sorted through by staff for exemptions prior to this change.

“Before we had a secretary that had to type in all probably 1300, 1400, or 1500 exemptions by hand, and now students are doing that part for us,” Lewis said.
