Lancer boys basketball with momentum going into Districts
The Lancers are rolling on a two-game win streak heading into the playoffs. With the past two wins against solid opponents McCluer North and Northwest Cedar Hills, the Lancers have promised themselves a winning season no matter how the playoffs turn out. With a solid record of 14-12, first-year head coach Matthew Landwehr has full confidence in his team’s ability to make a run for a fourth consecutive district title.
“I am very confident in my team,” Landwehr said. “I think we’ve played a really tough schedule this year that has prepared us for this time of year. We’ve been close games this year that at first we were on the short end, but recently we’ve won those games. I have full confidence that my guys are ready to go.”
The Lancers are the two seed in the District tournament with rival opponent Eureka Wildcats first round. This will be the third time the two teams have played this season with the Lancers sweeping the series 2-0 so far. At the beginning of the season, the team set their season goal high to make a run for a State title.
“Our team goals are really set by the team. “Landwehr said after being asked his first season goals for the team. “Our first goal was to win a Conference championship which we came just short of but that has motivated us even more because the ultimate goal is to win a District title to put yourself in a position to go to Sectionals and make a run for a State title.”
The District tournament will be hosted at Eureka High School and the Lancers will play tomorrow at 7 p.m. Theme will be white out.
