Looking towards the goal, freshman Mia Simpson runs down the field. Simpson has 15 goals and 11 assists on the season.

The field hockey team had a strong 2017 season, and they are committed to a victorious post-season. Their regular season record was 16-2-3.

Head Coach Melissa Schroeder is proud of the girls’ hard work and the results they were able to achieve through their commitment.

“[Senior] Meghan Conroy leads our scoring with 26 goals and 22 assists and is second in St. Louis in scoring.  Freshman Mia Simpson is second with 15 goals and 11 assists. Our defense has been solid all season,” Schroeder said.

Schroeder contributes this record to their motto that raised the morale of the team. She believes that this motto and their dedication to success were major factors that led to their success.

“Our season motto has been to outwork the other team. The girls have worked so hard to get to 16-2-3 on the season,” Schroeder said. “We have faced a very tough schedule and have been on the road a lot all season. We got to the Final Four last year and our hopes would be to do it again, but it will not be easy, and we will have to upset a lot of teams.”

Junior Lilly Balderston is proud of the hard work the team put in all season. She believes that both their hard work and the mutual trust between the coaches and the players contributed to their success.

“Like all teams, we have our weaknesses, and we continually work hard to improve them. Thankfully, there hasn’t been any major challenges. The season isn’t over till we win on October 28th in the State Championship game,” Balderston said. “We have been working really hard as a team to accomplish this goal. We appreciate the belief our coaches have in us.”

As the season draws its end, Schroeder has encouraging words for the seniors who will soon be heading off to college.

“I am sad for the seniors to leave but so happy to have had them in the program for four years. They are all true leaders,” Schroeder said.
