Winter Break Recap

Wrestling: The Lancers took first place at yet another tournament this winter break, this time at Granite City. The Lancers used their depth and balance to capture a tournament title. 10 of 14 wrestlers ended up finishing in the top eight, leaving Lafayette with 583.5 points.  Alex Wier took first place, winning the title set 4-2. A well timed reversal was exactly what Wier needed as he won his final two periods after starting 2-2.

Boys Basketball: Lafayette is currently riding a three game winning streak after they defeated Troy Buchanan, SLUH and then Marquette over winter break. Over the five game span for the Lancers, the team won four out of the five games to boost their record to 6-3. The team averaged about 60 points per game over the stretch and they only lost to De Smet by two points in a 54-52 game. Lafayette’s next game is scheduled for Jan. 8 at Mehlville Highschool at 7 p.m.

Girls Swimming: The Lady Lancers swim team had two contests around winter break. The first being the Marquette relays on Dec. 12 where the Lancers finished second among 15 teams only falling behind the Marquette Mustangs who’s score of 266 slightly edged Lafayette’s 248. Their second contest however was a match up against Ladue on Jan. 7 where the Lancers won 130-55. Their next match up is Jan. 22 versus parkway West.

Girls Basketball: The Lafayette girls basketball team won two games and lost two games during the winter break. The team defeated Fort Zumwalt North at MICDS on December 22. The final score was 53-39. Taking a loss to MICDS, the December 29 game at MICDS ended 69-46. “We played a tough game against MICDS,” senior Taylor Dent said. The next day playing Whitfield at MICDS, the team edged out a victory with a final score of 43-42. The Lancers lost to Parkway North on January 5 65-48. “We’ve established a much more cohesive team than last year and are focusing on resilience moving forward,” Dent said.
