With a 9-8 regular season record, the Lafayette girls soccer team is prepped and ready for game one of the District tournament against their rival Marquette on May 17 starting at 7 p.m.

Lafayette has already played Marquette once and lost the contest 2-0, but they are hoping to get some different results for the upcoming game.

“Some games we have come out really strong and others not so much, so going into the game tonight we have to come out strong and aggressive or it will be our last game,” junior Jessica Smith said. “We all want this badly, it’s just a matter of how well we play on the field.”

This year in particular, Smith has emerged as one of the top players on the team. Although she hasn’t put up huge numbers, she still impacts the team through her leadership and will to win.

“As far as my play goes, I’ve played forward and sometimes a wing midfielder all my high school career and haven’t always been so successful,” Smith said. “However this year I finally took it upon myself to start scoring and leading the team with my effort and finished products. Although my numbers aren’t anywhere near other girls on other teams, each goal mattered so tonight I hope I can come out and put some in the back on the net.”

Smith is tied on the team with six goals with freshman Cassidy Klohmann and is also tied on the team with sophomore Meghan Conroy in assists with four.

Be sure to go out and support the team tonight at Marquette as they try to win the round one of the District tournament and advance into the finals.
