On Nov. 10-12, 20 of Lafayette’s student publications members departed for the Fall JEA/NSPA National Journalism Convention in Indianapolis.
Students attended sessions presented by a wide variety of speakers in order to further their journalistic knowledge.
Selected students also participated in JEA’s National Write-Off competition, where junior Emma Grant received an honorable mention in the yearbook copy/captions student life category.
Other students were also recognized on the trip for their work on publications.
Senior Anna James received a 4th place in NSPA’s Story of the Year award in the diversity category.
Adviser Nancy Smith was also rewarded for her excellence, receiving NSPA’s Pioneer Award and JEA’s Medal of Merit.
The Image was recognized as a Pacemaker Finalist from the 2015-2016 school year, and this year’s first issue earned 8th Place in Best in Show.
In addition to attending sessions and the awards ceremony, the students got the chance to see a little bit of Indianapolis and participate in an Escape Room challenge.
