Out and About: Sherman Beach

Located near the popular hangout spots such as Castlewood State Park and Zombie Road, Sherman Beach offers many of the same features and others that make it unique.

This park is located past Ridge Meadows Elementary at the very end on Ridge Road in the once popular railroad town of Sherman. Upon arrival at the park there is a small parking lot that is accessible to the several trails.

The three-mile long Al Foster trail cuts right through the park; it provides a pathway from Sherman Beach to Castlewood. If you seek a more difficult trail than the Al Foster, the park also connects to the Rock Hollow trail. The trail is a paved 2.2 mile path that goes up soaring bluffs.

If hiking isn’t your thing, Sherman Beach offers many other activities. The Meramec River is the main feature of this park that provides excellent sights. A large sandbar has been naturally made making the beach part of the park. At night you could expect campers having a bonfire along the beach.

The Pacific Railroad has tracks that also cut through the park. A large bridge is constructed across the Meramec River right next to the sandbar. This bridge constantly has trains going across it to head to the Kirkwood Station, making it a key landmark to Sherman Beach.
