15 years ago, Lafayette sponsored Operation Bald to raise money for cancer. Today it happens again in honor of Jennifer Ingram, language arts teacher, who has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

The teachers who initiated the event said they asked Ingram to choose a charity to donate the proceeds to and she chose St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

“Operation Bald stands for: Being A Little Daring. It is an effort to support someone that we know, Ms. Ingram, who has cancer, and also to raise money for a good cause,” world language teacher, Gina Luerding-Looten said.

Some of the people participating in the fund raiser include: world languages teachers Emma Tamaroff, Luerding-Looten, Theresa Gornet, John Becker, guidance counselor Sarah Hicks, social studies teacher Jon. Sumner, math teacher Sean O’Connor and several others

Although, this fundraiser hits the hearts of many people, for Luerding-Looten takes this fundraiser especially hits home.

“Ms. Ingram was my student back when I was going through cancer treatments and now she is a colleague and now she’s going through cancer treatments, so that really was the main goal; just to give her a little support and love and say hey, we’re here for you,” Luerding-Looten said.

As of Thursday, Feb. 4 the total amount collected to see some staffers either shave their head or get a very short haircut was $1,567 and climbing.
