Lafayette’s first conference rival game is right around the corner. They will face the Marquette Mustangs on Jan. 15 at home starting at 7 p.m.
The Lancers have started strong this season with a record of 8-3 and are currently first in the conference standings. Their most recent win was against Parkway South on Jan. 12 and Lafayette won that game 59-47 to extend their winning-streak to five games. But Lafayette has much more at stake than a winning-streak.
“Pretty much just bragging rights really,” Jared Hinton, senior, said. “We’ve beaten them the past couple of years so we’re just kind of following up.”
The game against Marquette is only Lafayette’s second home game this season. They are 1-0 at home this year thanks to a 74-54 victory over Francis Howell on Dec. 18.
“It’s just way better, we’re kind of used to going on the road and having people cheer against us, so it’s nice have people cheering for us this time,” Hinton said.
Lafayette’s next game, after the contest between Marquette, will be at Seckman on Jan. 19 starting at 7 p.m.
