As of January, new Emergency Kits have been placed in every classroom in the school These kits include basic first-aid supplies, carbohydrates for diabetic students, a flashlight and trash bags. They are available in case a natural disaster or other event that would cause students and staff to have to remain in classrooms for an extended period of time.

Nurses Rita McLafferty and Molly Bozada implemented the process of putting the buckets into classrooms at the request of Dr. Kirti Mehrotra, Assistant Principal, Lafayette’s Emergency Response Coordinator.

“This has been discussed and researched since the beginning of the year,” McLafferty said. “It took approximately a week for all of the supplies to be ordered, put in buckets and delivered to the classrooms.”

McLafferty added that the combined efforts of the administration, the custodial staff, nurses office and the 1st Hour Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) class were necessary to complete the task.

A complete list of all of the Emergency Kit supplies can be found inside each individual bucket.
