Lafayette battles for top five finish in Parkway West Tournament
January 29, 2016
The Lafayette Lancers boy varsity basketball team is now a few games past the halfway point and the season is shaping up to be a good one.
The team has tallied 11 wins thus far and only lost five. All of their losses have been non-conference games, which has helped them maintain a perfect 4-0 conference record. Lafayette also has flourished at home with a unblemished 3-0 record.
The Lancers next game is set for Jan. 29 at home against Parkway West (13-3) starting at 5:30 p.m. This will be the final game of the Parkway West tournament and Lafayette has a chance to take fifth place in the tournament with a win, or sixth place in the tournament with a loss. So how will Lafayette be able to win the game?
“Rebounding and defense,” Adam Flinn, junior, said.
Flinn is second on the team with 60 rebounds while forward Luke Finley leads the Lancers with 119 rebounds. Flinn also leads Lafayette with 17 steals. Not to mention the fact that he has dished out a team-leading 56 assists and he has scored 168 points so far this season.
After the game against Parkway West, Lafayette will travel to Seckman on Feb. 1 to play the Jaguars starting at 7 p.m.
