Girls swimming caps their season with a second place finish at state
February 25, 2016
Several high placing performances, and even one record breaking event, by the Lady Lancers swim team ultimately culminated in a second place finish for the state title.
Lafayette had two first place finishes in both the 200 Freestyle Relay and also in the 400 Freestyle Relay (Franceska Petrosino, Cate Behl, Kendall Hansen and Delaney Thomas) which they broke the Missouri state record with a time of 3:28.66. The team also had several third place finishes including the 200 Medley Relay, the 200 Individual Freestyle (Franceska Petrosino) and in Diving (Elle Christie).
This marks the fifth straight year that a St. Louis area team has not won the state title for girls swimming. This is the longest streak since the competitions existence that a team other than a St. Louis area team has won the state championship.
Rock Ridge, the school that won the state meet, has won it three out of the past five years.
