After coming in second place in the Suburban West tournament on Sept. 22, the Lady Lancers girls golf team competed in the Class 2 District 3 Tournament and finished in second place behind Francis Howell out of the 10 teams that competed. Then the team traveled to Troy, MO on Oct. 3 to battle 20 other teams in hopes of sending players to State.
The Lady Lancers were able to pull out a fifth place finish at the tournament ending with 400. Powerhouse Rock Bridge came in first with 344, followed by Marquette, Francis Howell and Hickman.
“I am extremely proud of the girls for qualifying for Sectionals as team,” Head Coach Katrina Clark said. “We beat our biggest rival and toughest competition of the year, Marquette, to get there. They all played well on the same day and that is what it takes in the post season.”
Out of the handful of Lady Lancers that competed, only one qualified for the State match. The lone wolf is Paige Sanfelippo. She finished with a solid 90 at the Sectionals meet, which was enough to get her into the State meet.
“I am confident Paige will play well at State. It is a lot of pressure at the qualifying tournaments, but once you make it to State it is a bit of relief,” Clark said. “Paige has worked extremely hard all season and during the off-season and deserves to represent LHS at the State tournament. She is a great player and I am so proud of her accomplishments and improvements since last year.”
The State tournament will be Oct. 10-11 and take place at the Columbia Country Club in Columbia, MO. Be sure to go out and support Sanfelippo as she will be the only Lancer at the competition.![]()
