Girls cross country look to stay successful amid turnover from last season
September 1, 2016
The girls cross country team looks to keep up their success from last year despite losing some of the best runners in Lafayette and Missouri history and their long time head coach Scott Brandon from last years team. However, they retain some top runners in Meg Nicholson and Mollie Rogan, as well as an ambitious new coach in Steven Stallis.
With all the changes, a big turnover from the previous season is to be expected, but how that will affect the runners remains to be seen. Stallis is implementing some new changes that aim to keep the team successful.
“One change that I have brought to the team is utilizing the weight room. I expected the team to be a bit hesitant at first, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that they were super excited to add lifting to our routine,” Stallis said.
Despite the changes, the team’s ambition remains as high as ever.
“Before our season started, the girls set their own personal goals which I was happy to see were ambitious. They also set goals as a team that are very obtainable and I am excited that everyone is motivated to uphold the high standard of Lafayette cross country,” Stallis said.
Their next meet is the Lutheran South Invitational on Thursday Sept. 1 at Jefferson Barracks.
