Varsity wrestling gears up for Districts
February 11, 2015
After an impressive Conference championship win against Seckman, the 2nd ranked school in the state, the varsity wrestling squad will prepare for their next obstacle: Districts.
The Lancers are one of 15 teams that will be taking part in the championship. Other teams participating include the aforementioned Seckman Jaguars, as well as Northwest and CBC. While their district has several tough opponents, Junior Tim Bogar believes that with the success the Lancers had this year, it shouldn’t be too hard to place highly.
“We’re gonna win Districts,” he said.
Bogar’s confidence in the squad is due in part to his surprised view of how the team has fared this season.
“I knew that the team was going to wrestle well, but I didn’t expect us to do this well,” he said.
Regardless of how they place, the Lancers will most likely be sending wrestlers to State individually. Potential qualifiers include, but are not limited to, seniors Alec Reid and Nico Underwood, as well as junior Alex Wier.
Districts begin on Friday, Feb. 12 at 5:30 pm at Northwest High School. On Saturday at 10 am, the second day will begin, also held at Northwest.
