Senior Turkey Dance kicks off in time for Thanksgiving season
November 19, 2015
The annual Senior Turkey Dance is set to begin this upcoming Sunday.
The dance is sponsored by Student Council (STUCO) and has been a long running tradition at the school, originally several decades ago.
The event is held to as an active way to help out the community, specifically the elderly. Students bring in pies and other Thanksgiving food items to the Commons and act as waiters, serving the seniors food and drinks. Afterwards, the dance portion of the event is held, allowing both students and senior citizens to socialize with each other.
Senior Joe Stewart, STUCO president, said, “Some of them have taught us new dance moves in the past.”
Stewart recalled a story he once heard from one of the women at a previous dance.
“She told us about how her and her friends would go down to a diner near them, and they would put a lot of money into the jukebox and just dance for awhile,” he said.
The dance begins on Sunday, Nov. 22 at noon.
