Jennifer Keillor, sponsor for Future Health Professionals (HOSA), Jeri Heth, head of the math department and the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) are joining forces to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

The Pasta for Pennies campaign is co-sponsored by Olive Garden, and LHS is supporting the cause by collecting donations at and outside of school.

Lafayette has supported this organization for 19 years and has raised over $27,000 to help fight blood cancers. Last year alone, Lafayette raised $1,606.

This year’s goal is to raise $2,000 with the help of JROTC and student donations.

Students walked around during lunch periods to collect donations on Feb. 13 and they will walk around again at a later date to collect.

Teachers who are interested in helping can contact JROTC to receive a Pasta for Pennies collection box which their students can use to donate money. Students can bring in money to their first hour classroom the week of Feb. 23, and the JROTC cadets will collect the boxes at the end of the week.

Teachers can also contact JROTC if they would like to show a motivational DVD about leukemia to their students.

The donations campaign began Feb. 18 and will continue until March 15. So far, $320.89 has been collected.
